South Jordan Marathon/Half Marathon & 5k

Fall marathons in Utah are hot!  Almost all of the current ones are already sold out or are so highly sought after that they have gone to a lottery system in to select their athletes.  A fall marathon more closely located to our state population center will be very well received.  Our course is excellent and fast and should attract national attention as a great Boston qualifier in years to come. This race will attract many local, regional and national runners.  Proceeds from this race will be going to the Healthy South Jordan Coalition which is dedicated to promoting health and fitness in our community.  Would you like to be involved and get your business some great exposure?  Listed below are several ways.

Explanation of Volunteer Sponsorship Positions

 

All Volunteers will be required to attend a mandatory training meeting on Friday, September 24 @ 6PM at the West Riverside Park.  You will also be required to check in at the same place by 6:30 AM on September 25.

Staffing an aid station:

Staffing an assigned aid station on the course, handing out water or Gatorade to participants, with at least 10 people and cleaning up the area afterwards.

We will provide the cups, Gatorade, water, garbage cans and tables.  You provide an awning, if you want one, the pizzazz, any decorations or music that you might want to make your aid station fun.  PLEASE make sure that your “extras” do not impede the runners in any way.  Please do not hand out any promotional items on the course.  Reserve that for your finish line booth.  If you have a questions about what is appropriate, please ask.  The race staff reserves the right to ask you to remove any items that it deems unacceptable or that impedes runners or compromise the runner’s safety in any way. 

You will be expected to staff your aid station from the beginning of the race until the last runner followed by the tail truck passes.  Then you may clean up, pack up and head to the finish line for the finish line party.

Tail Truck:

We need a couple of trucks to follow the last runners and pick up cones, directional signs, trash cans, aid stations and generally pick up on the course.  We seek to leave our course at least as clean as we found it.  You will need to provide a truck and 5-6 volunteers. 

Clean up crew:

We will need you to provide a crew of at least 10 people to help clean up the starting line or finish line venue.  This will include trash pick up and equipment tear down.  We seek to leave our venues at least as clean as we found them.

Other volunteer assignments:

We will need you to provide a crew of at least 10 people for miscellaneous volunteer positions ranging from directing runners, assisting at the post race food table, finish line support, etc.

Another necessary volunteer assignments could include staffing and supplying a first aid station at the finish line by medical professionals.

Other necessary volunteer assignments could include any service that could be useful to producing this race in a safe, effective, and quality manner.  These assignments need to receive prior approval from the race committee.

 

 

 

Explanation of Marketing Opportunities

Booth Space: 

We will be providing space only.  All tents, tables, supplies, etc will be up to you.  Our race committee reserves the right to request that any offensive materials or items not in keeping with community values be removed.  Please have your booth set up and vehicles removed from the area before 8AM when the race starts so as to reduce traffic in the park and keep our athletes safe.  You will be responsible to clean up your area completely afterwards.

Goody bag items:

You may place a promotional item and/or flyer in the goody bag that is handed out to all athletes and volunteers.  As we get closer to race date, we can provide you with a better number of how many items you will need.  It is your responsibility to arrange delivery of these items to the race committee no less than 1 week before race date.  Attached is a brochure from a couple of great local companies who can help you produce these items.  If you use them, please let us know and we can pick the items for you, saving you the trouble of having to get them to us.

Banners:

Banners will be placed at the finish line for participants and spectators to see.  It is your responsibility to arrange delivery of your banner to the race committee no less than one week before race date.

Finish line announcer feed:

As the runners are crossing the finish line, short commercials may be given by our announcer.  These should be no more than two sentences at a time.  Please submit what you would like to have said by the announcer to the race committee no less than one week before race date.

Logos:

Logos can be placed on race marketing materials, on the race website with a link to your website, and on the back of the shirts.  The sooner you get your logo to us, the more we can promote it.  For use on the website and on marketing materials, jpg and bmp files are fine.  For use on the shirt, we must have high quality vector files and they must be submitted at least 6 weeks before race date in order to be put onto the shirt.  If you are having problems getting your vector file, please let us know and we will direct you to someone who can help you develop your logo for this purpose.

Posters:

The more athletes and spectators that we have at the race the better exposure you will have for your business.  Please help us help you by requesting that posters and flyers be put up and distributed through your business.
